Bricks and Patterns
Building Architecture Bricks & Patterns
Bricks
RiVidium’s Approach
RiVidium leverages the “bricks” concept as defined by Gartner. Bricks represent elemental technology building blocks by offering a description of the technology and its role. They are used to capture specific implications, dependencies, deployment and management strategies. In addition, information about the state of the technology is represented in the brick so that informed decision can be made by those programs choosing to adopt this capability. Lastly, information regarding vendor stability is also provided.
Bricks and Patterns are captured as part of an EA discipline. As these concepts are developed, RiVidium captures them in the ArchitectureEngine™ so that they may be effectively used in defining enterprise architectures. Patterns and bricks are tools for the architect in developing an enterprise's technical reference model. By separating the logical and physical, and then maximizing the potential these tools provide, architects can gain leverage in developing architecture road maps. This is what makes our approach an optimal one as it represents a one-stop shop for EA governance and allows architects to validate the use of corresponding and appropriate bricks and patterns.
Patterns
Benefits
Patterns are logical models of technology – design ideas that can be reused and leveraged across the enterprise. Patterns are based on industry standards, and tend to endure for a long time. Just as in standard EA practice, RiVidium incorporates this information in its engines so that it may serve as a blueprint identify components at a design or logical level.
• Patterns can be reused to develop consistency across the enterprise.
• Reduced deployment cycles
• Patterns create a shared vocabulary around specific design and implementation considerations.
